Melanie became a teacher after qualifying with a PGCE from King’s College, London. Prior to joining Ellern Mede School to teach English, she worked in mainstream secondary schools. She has a particular interest in Victorian Literature, especially Thomas Hardy. Melanie’s interest in education led to her role as a Parent Governor of a local primary school where she was responsible for communication between the Senior Management Team and the parent body.
Melanie had a varied career before teaching including a variety of commercial jobs, from sales to secretarial, the most interesting of which was working as an MP’s personal secretary at the House of Commons. After graduating from the University of Manchester, she spent a year working and travelling in Australia and South East Asia, before returning to London and a career in advertising. She worked as an Account Manager on consumer/retail accounts for a number of years, liaising between the clients and creative teams. During this period, Melanie gained a diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing before changing career direction into teaching.
