Curriculum

We prepare all students to focus on their strengths, individual talents and skills.

Each school day runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm with breaks for snacks and lunch. Life at the school is varied with extracurricular and therapeutic activities and hobbies built into each student's individual plan.

Ellern Mede Friary Hall provides a curriculum that is broad, balanced and also flexible to bespoke needs. We always endeavour to meet the learning needs of the young people who are enrolled for education with us. Across Ellern Mede Schools, the curriculum menu usually includes the following GCSE and A Level subjects, but is not limited to this selection:

English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, French, Spanish, German, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Art, Art & Design, Textiles, Sociology, Psychology, Drama and Music.

Ellern Mede Schools promote the ‘Five British Values’ of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. Students are supported by the spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of the curriculum.

As we continue to grow, there will also be many opportunities to explore extra-curricular subjects. At our Ellern Mede Schools we recognise that students enjoy being a part of the artistic, dramatic and musical activities that we hold at the schools, with the results of the very talented work by our students often displayed, with their permission, around the schools and the hospitals. Creative subjects include: Photography, Clay, Printing, Textiles, Poetry and Creative Writing.

Education with Health

In line with our broader ethos of education with health, our Multi-Disciplinary Team formed of education and healthcare professionals also provides a range of health and specialist interventions which go far beyond the usual concept of pastoral care as this includes a wide range of specialist therapies. Tailoring the curriculum and therapies in combination with one another - and the needs of the student - means we can better support the health and wellbeing of each young person and their families.

Therapeutic intervention and support for students and families includes:

  • Counselling
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Educational Psychology
