Admissions & Funding

1. Admission Criteria

Ellern Mede Schools offer a day service and welcome a variety of students with either special educational needs (SEN), eating disorders and related conditions,  as well as young people who are receiving inpatient or outpatient treatment at any of Ellern Mede hospitals. Some students we would consider supporting might have self-excluded from their mainstream school due to educational disruption caused through some kind of mental health trauma, anxiety, stress linked to personal issues, exam stress or bullying. It is likely that students not associated with the hospitals will already be receiving help from their General Practitioner (GP) or Community CAMHS Team, who may assist in referring them for educational support.

We welcome and accept children and young people who are:

  • aged 8 to 18 years
  • funded by a local authority Education, Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • receiving support from community or any other health services
  • patients of Ellern Mede Services
  • gifted and talented and have had a fragmented school experience
  • in need of Education Other Than At School (EOTAS)

All students will agree to the following conditions:

  1. they wish to be a student at Ellern Mede School and will attend regularly;
  2. they have a strong desire to make academic progress;
  3. they will behave with respect and consideration to the other students, the staff, the property and any pets we have, such as the hospitals’ therapy dogs.

2. Funding

We accept students who are privately funded as well as those who have been referred by their local authority with an EHC Plan. Fees are invoiced one month in advance and the daily charge is £175.00. Ellern Mede clinical support fees will be invoiced separately.
